Bachelor of Arts or BA

Bachelor of Arts or BA is a Bachelor’s degree given for an undergraduate program in the arts and sciences. There are plenty of job options after graduating and having a Bachelor of Arts or BA degree. You can either directly go for a job or you can pursue a postgraduate degree for a more specialized field according to your interests.

  • Government Jobs –

    • CDS –
      One is eligible for CDS (Combined Defence Services) exams if one fulfills the age, educational, and physical eligibility to appear for entrance exams and secures minimum required percentage in entrance exams. CDS exams are held every 6 months, which means average two times in a year, and every year thousands of youth appear for the exam.
    • SSC CGL –
      It is one of the most sought exams conducted annually by the Staff Selection Commission, which was established in 1975. It is often referred to as SSC CGL (Staff Selection Commission – Combined Graduate Level Exam). CGL is conducted to recruit staff to various posts in ministries, government departments, and other organizations of the Government of India, including Group B and Group C Posts. However, the final selection of the candidates depends on the number of vacancies from the concerned departments. The exam is conducted online. It is a computer-based test, which is conducted in four steps:

      • Tier-I (Preliminary Exam) is an online test with a duration of 60 minutes.
      • Tier-II (Main Exam) is an online test with a duration of 120 minutes.
      • Tier-III (Descriptive Test) is a pen and paper-based with a duration of 60 minutes.
      • Tier-IV is a computer skill test with a duration of 45 minutes.
    • UPSC –
      Its full form is Union Public Service Commission. It is similar to SSC with only one difference and the difference is: SSC is conducted by the State Government Authority and UPSC is conducted by the Central Government Authority.
    • Railways –
      Every year, vacancies are advertised for approximately 3k-4k total posts, categorized into different posts. One can appear for railways examination and can make a career in railways posts like deputy manager, general manager, office assistant, etc.
    • Bank PO/CLERK positions –
      There are bank exams conducted by Private or Government banks every year. One can prepare for these bank exams for PO (Probationary Officer) or Clerk posts and can join these posts and can get a good salary.
    • BPOs –
      If you are good at communicating in English and Hindi, then BPOs are the best place for you. You can work as a CCE (Customer Care Executive), and if you know another language then it will be even better.
    • Writer –
      If you are very good at writing skills, then you can make it as a career option. You can go to a freelance writer, translation work, or transcription work. You can write blogs, articles, stories, etc. You can become a writer for newspapers, magazines, or website content.
  • Jobs via Post Graduate Courses –

    One can go for specialization by doing post-graduation for specialized jobs.

    • Teaching Positions – These are probably the most obvious and preferred options for graduates after completing their Bachelor of Arts program. MA (Master of Arts) is the postgraduate level degree program that BA graduates can join in order to pursue higher studies in the domain of their choice. All the major universities across India offer MA programs is in a variety of subjects and, therefore, admission is quite easy. Master of Arts program is ideal for students who want to continue their further studies by means of M.Phil and doctorate programs. Master of Arts degrees are also preferred options for students who are planning to take up teaching as a profession in the future. MA candidates can appear for respective TET/NET examination and pass the exam to be eligible for teaching positions in schools and colleges for their respective subjects.
    • Business Manager or entrepreneurs – For business managers, one of the most popular and sought after career choices available in India today is MBA. MBA program makes students handle complex business problems and become an able business manager in both public as well as private sector organizations. In addition to this, the MBA also serves as a foundation for students who want to become an entrepreneur and set up their own business. Arts Graduate students can opt for an MBA program by clearing respective MBA entrance examinations; some institutes are also known to offer direct admissions as well.
  • Jobs via Professional Courses –

    One can pursue professional courses for having a bright future in the field of interest like journalism, law, multimedia, etc.

    • B.Ed (Bachelor of Education) – Bachelor of Education degree trains students into teaching pedagogy to be employed while teaching in schools. Other than providing a theoretical foundation in teaching, the course also provides practical training in the development of the teaching skills of the candidates. Graduated students can opt for this program after completion of their B.A graduation degree. Apart from teaching in schools, one can open up his/her own coaching institutes where one can provide tuitions to students.
    • Journalism and Mass Communication – The expanding trend of print and electronic media has opened up many avenues.     • Foreign Language – Foreign language experts, interpreters, editors, proofreaders, or translators are in great demand in the corporate world and facilitates easy communication for proper business transactions. There are some diploma courses, certificate courses and PG diploma courses in foreign languages. Some can even enroll for Ph.D. in foreign languages and these are offered at selected universities in India. You can take the role of Diplomatic Service Professional, Translator, Foreign Language Trainer, Interpreter, Tourist Guide, Air Hostess, etc.
    • Fashion and Textile Designing – It can be a 1-year diploma course or two-year regular PG course, or certification course depending on the University. A postgraduate management course in fashion and textile designing focuses on Textiles, Apparel, Footwear, Accessories, and other areas of the fashion industry. Specialization can be on various subjects like Marketing, Retailing, Merchandising, Brand Management, Fashion Business Management, Textile Science Processing (Dyeing And Printing), Supply Chain Management, Export Management, Market Research, etc. National Institute of Design (NID), National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Pearl Academy of Fashion and Amity School of Fashion Technology are some of the prominent institutes offering this course.
    • Travel and Tourism – The Tourism industry is another sector that has bright job options and it is growing fast. A travel and tourism course can entitle a graduate candidate to jobs in different areas like state tourism departments, airlines, hotels, immigration, and customs, travel agencies, etc. There are master, diploma, and certification courses available after graduation to pursue in the tourism industry. The Master of Tourism Administration (MTA) is a postgraduate two-year full-time program approved by the Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India.     • Hotel Management – Due to globalization, demand for trained professionals in the hotel industry has been constantly growing. The eligibility is 10+2 for undergraduates. Graduate students can apply for the postgraduate program in hotel management. Most popular hotel management courses for graduate students are PG Diploma in Dietetics and Hospital Food Service, Master in Tourism and Hotel Management (MTHM), Master of Hotel Management (MHM), Diploma in Hotel Management & Catering Technology, Certificate Course in Hotel Catering Management, MBA in Tourism & Hotel Management, Post Graduation in Program Management (PGPM), etc.
